Cheese Baked Lobster Hokkien Noodles

Above is a picture of a sumptuous cheese baked lobster hokkien noodles at 39, Jalan Nagore, 10050 Penang. The slipper lobster looks good but after being baked, the flesh shriveled up and it was enough for a mouthful or two. Rather expensive for the price of $39.90, but overall the soup base was delicious as typical of hokkien noodles, which consists of coconut milk infused with mint leaves, chicken stock, and such.
Above was my spouse's choice of tiger prawns hokkien noodles. To view, you need to click on the right button on the right side of the picture to swipe to the left. Tiger prawns are especially bigger than the normal prawns and are most costly due to their huge size. The photos captured certainly look enticing, dont' they? The ambiance was just right with very friendly waiter explaining the intricacies and small talk with us during our meal there. But the price was not cheap and rather exorbitant. We tried this place as recommended by the youngest sis since she knows I love lobster.

How to Get Free Images - Pexels.com

Do you know that you can get FREE graphics without copyright from Pexels.com? There are vector graphics that can scale to the maximum size and there are so many choices where one is spoilt for a variety of various graphics categories. Yes, you can use them freely in your blogs, banners, etc. The above image or a rather abstract picture was taken from pexels.com. They are high quality, good resolution for maximum viewing size and with smaller sizes to choose from. Another interesting image editing software that is free to use online is Canva.com. Personally, I have yet to experiment with it but it seems Canva is good for adding text to promote your products or as an eye-candy.

God is Good, All the Time

Have you heard of Don Moen? Well, he's a famous Gospel singer, well-known for his song, "God is Good, All the Time." Grace is unmerited favor from God and what we don't deserve, we receive. This is certainly good news to all of God's children. We need encouragement daily in this every day grind of life of hustle and bustle to survive and pay the bills, put food on the table, etc. As we cannot depend on others too much, we have to be independent financially and save up towards retirement which, to me, is just a few years away. Today is a Sunday, I shall take the liberty to update my blogs aross different platforms.

Learning Ruby via Youtube Tutorial

I bought a book on Ruby and it was designed by a Japanese to make coding fun and easier, with shorter codes as compared to Java. Ruby is useful for Shopify stores and you don't need to create icons, etc as in website development. The game is more competitive with siblings where one of them is a professional graphic designer, while the other is a professional coder with backend database experience. Ruby on Rails is pretty popular and I shall take my own sweet time to digest the many codes and syntax of Ruby. Eventually, I hope to be good enough to work on Freelancer or Upwork and earn much more.

Working Part-Time at a Home Office

I may have a full-time job to work in a home office, but nevertheless, I still moonlight part-time by blogging, completing surveys and doing micro-jobs. These are within my area of expertise and easy peasy. But don't ask me to do coding or debugging and such. You see, I am a very confused programmer and will create bugs and cannot link the logic. It is all unfamiliar territory for me. Today, I gave mum RM 900 for the household expenditure; RM 500 for her own expenses while RM 400 is to help the youngest sis to pay for the utilities, petrol, Astro, etc. Being the only parent left where I inherited my DNA, I should honor my mum, regardless of what happened in the past. As the Bible states, 'Honor your parents, then your life will be prolonged.'

Dinner at The Dome, Gurney Plaza

Above is a picture of my dinner yesterday at The Dome, Gurney Plaza in Penang while my friend had fish and chips. You can scroll or swipe to the left for more pictures. There were several reading materials too and they are premium magazines to flip through. I had chicken mushroom soup pic with vegetables on the side, consisting of corns, carrots, and broccoli. My friend had rocket salad as a side dish with chips and fried fish fillet. The bill was not cheap. It came to about more than $100 for 2. I also had cold speatmint smoothie while my friend had hot cappuccino without sugar. I love to dine here once in a while for varieties sake.

Join Toluna via my Link

I have earned a part-time income from Toluna and if you would like to join, here is my referral link >> https://enmy.toluna.com/referral/philin135 It is not much, but about RM 20 a month, which to me, something is better than nothing at all. You also need to be active and participate in surveys. This is the most paying survey for me as compared to others which will take a very long time to hit the minimum benchmark to withdraw. And if you are lucky, you will get the 1,000,000 points daily lottery which amounts to slightly more than RM 1,200.00 It pays to be diligent and post interesting pictures, encouragements, etc.

So Beautiful, how to Eat?

The above 'pulut kuning' was so well decorated, it was a pity to spoil it by cutting and eating. The quail eggs and cherry tomatoes complement each other. Star anise was used as the swan's pretty eyelashes. Spring onions, carrots, chilies, and leafy vegetables were used to embellish the 'pulut kuning' as well. This is a favorite dish amongst the Malays using sticky yellow rice where the yellow color comes from ground turmeric. Beside is a red velvet cake mixed with chocolate cake and topped with cream icing as eye candy. It was Hari Raya celebration in Penang's Immigration office and I happened to be invited as a guest to savor the buffet food meant for the staff. Also took the opportunity to take away some durian 'gandum' and cakes for my new maid initially.

Mum's birthday on 23rd August

Last night, the 4 of us celebrated mum's birthday as a family minus second sister and hubby in the UK. For 5 meals of steamed fish, braised clams, stir-fried birthday noodles, chilly crabs, a jug of ampla fruit juice, and tofu with egg, the price was $240 which is rather affordable, considering there were several kinds of seafood. This place is Soon Lai Restaurant and is always packed with patrons/diners for its variety of dishes from chicken, vegetables and more. I gave mum $200 angpow in a nice embroizered cotton red cloth packet with a faux jade and some red strings Chinese knotted embellishments. Youngest sis sat next to mum and we drove them to the place from my home at Time Square.

Delicious home-cooked food

When the maid was around to wash the dishes, I took the liberty to cook up a meal at home for the first time after 10 years of eating outside. I bought chicken drumstick, chicken breast to be chopped into meatballs, carrots, big onions, black Shitake mushrooms and scallops with red dates. I boiled the soup and stir-fried eggs with mushrooms, onions, and carrots. It turned out pretty well and the soup was tasty. Even my remaining parent, my mum, drank up all the soup. I hope she appreciates my effort to pleased the family by cooking at home with tender love and labor. From the Instagram pictures above, you can click on the right button to scroll to the left for more pictures. In the meantime, enjoy this humble photos of mine.

Dinner at Xuan Xin

Personally, the food was good but the waiter and waitress services were horrendous! Here, we shall focus on the food. The broccoli florets were cooked or stir-fried until soft by the heat of the wok. The gravy of egg white with crab meat makes it sumptuous with a burst of seafood and egg flavors. That was my dinner for today plus a glass of watermelon juice without sugar. My spouse had fried rice with big prawns, served in a blue floral plate. Just swipe to the left to see the picture. He also had iced coffee in a metal steel straw, since plastic straws were banned in Penang sometime back. Hope you enjoy the foods and pictures here.

Mini Buddha Jumps Over the Wall Soup

I had the above mini Buddha jumps over the wall soup recently including stir-fried broccoli florets with sliced mushrooms and carrots. This is a new Singapore establishment in Gurney Plaza, owned by a Singaporean. For $45 a bowl, you can get another free helping of soup for 1 time, of which we took away for mum. The taste was superb with oysters inside and chicken stock with drumstick and other pieces of chicken. Inside the soup, there were also black Shitake mushrooms and fish maw. It was infused with a burst of flavors and this restaurant only specializes in soups like ABC soup, watercress soup and many more. Well, this won't be the last time I dine in this eatery, but will come and taste the other soups as well. The ambience was nice too with many red lanterns adorn the ceiling.

Chicken Chop at Tesco

View this post on Instagram

Chicken chop for lunch. #chickenchop

A post shared by DTan (@philin135) on

Just the other day, I ordered chicken chop at Tesco food court in Tanjung Tokong. The chicken meat was rather small and thin to maximize profit over there. Well, I guess, most of the foods were costly and it was $10 for the meal excluding drinks. The gravy was lovely as ubiquitous of all chicken chop meals. I guess the cook put some tomato sauce mixed with vinegar for that 'oomph' burst of flavor. Hungry as I was, I finished it in no time in my hunt for different food instead of the usual Nonya dishes at the same place. For drinks, I had iced orange juice which was rather diluted. Well, I think this is the effect of inflation where the power of money diminishes while the quantity of food becomes less with higher price.

Beautiful Rolled Fondant Cakes

Above are pictures of 4 design types of rolled fondant cakes that I snapped at Bread History in Tesco at Tanjung Tokong. They are too beautiful to eat and all the hours of painstaking work to create edible art is to be preserved, in my humble opinion. But humans are spoiled for choice and they want to eat the best design and most colorful fondant cake. These are my own Instagram pictures that I posted for posterity. I also submitted the picture to a survey called Toluna where I participate for points to be converted to cash. So far, I had earned $600 in 1 year's time on a part-time basis. On good months, I can get up to $60 a month! Well, I guess that was the best I could achieve. Anyway, hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I do and happy reading.

Mum Fell Down

After x-ray, MRI scan, the orthopedic surgeon diagnosed mum as having multiple compression of the spine, slipped disc and bone spurs. Now, mum is using Forteo to inject herself every night at 9:45pm at the same time nightly. The medicine is paid by dad's pension that mum inherited. It costs $1,600 a tube that lasts about 10 times. Mum also has to take a painkiller, muscle relaxant, and calcium. She is very lucky to be staying in a very private condo to recuperate with the help of a maid and catering of food. Both youngest one and I with my spouse help mum, taking turns to see to her needs like getting her mixture potassium citrate from the pharmacist for gastric pains. I can only do my best as one parent is left and another had gone to heaven.

Sumptuous Dinner Meal at CRC

The tagline Good Food certainly equals to Good Mood. Food is cathartic and helps reduces stress at work, with people, etc. Just click on the right button to scroll to the left the delicious pictures of food taken recently at Chinese Recreation Club of my Instagram account. Hari Raya Today and Burnt Candles for Dad's Niche

Dad, I am truly sorry, if I hurt you in the past. I was the rebellious one in the family and I know it hurts a lot to see your offspring a bit wayward. I was sent to 'tangki' to rid of evil and at that time, we were not yet Christians. Forget about the past, now it is time to light candles for you as perpetual light to shine upon your soul and may you rest in peace and to hasten the path to heaven from purgatory. As this is your faith and believe, I shall honor it and try to light more candles on a more frequent basis like the youngest sister does weekly for you. I guess it is a form of prayer for you too. Though the teeth and the tongue may grind at each other, nevertheless you are my dad and you gave me life! I love you DAD, despite the occasional awkwardness. It is time to Rest in Peace and enjoy Life in Heaven with Jesus, Dear DAD. Where there is no pain, suffering, aging, diseases, sickness, being in adult pampas as you could no longer control your bladder, could no longer walk unaided and being left to stay in a nursing home.
